Silverfish absorbs anything that includes polysaccharides, like starches and dextrins in adhesives, which are available in book bindings. Apart from that, they feed on carpet, clothing, java, dandruff, glue, hair, a few paints, paper, images, plaster, and sugar. Wallpapers are not an exception as well because of the fact that these creatures feed on it due to the paste. Overall, anything which has polysaccharide contents are considered foods for those pests.
Silverfish are common insect species and are abundant in Africa, the Americas, Europe, Australia, Asia and other parts of the Pacific. They inhabit moist areas with relative humidity between 75 percent and 95%.
They nestle in dark and sheltered areas in the household. Otherwise, they are probably undiscovered in bookshelves, cupboards, closets and gated areas. They may not inflict any harm but they are considered a nuisance and may be destructive to any possessions.
